Read the book titled THE HUMANIST TRADITION IN THE WEST, by Ann Bullock, if you want to know the REAL foundations of America, how the education system was used to promote the humanist tradition, and how this tradition influenced the “founding fathers” thoughts and actions, and how the public education system was developed to support this humanist tradition.
