Pope Francis said on Tuesday that a “supranational common good” needs to take precedence over nation states. Meanwhile, a report ordered by Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt found that Christians are being persecuted at “genocide levels” around the world.
The Pope told the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences:
“In the current situation of globalization not only of the economy but also of technological and cultural exchanges, the nation state is no longer able to procure the common good of its population alone”.
The Pope went further, denouncing “aggressive currents” against immigrants that “neglects the common good”.
What the Pope did not mention is a report ordered by Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt in the U.K. The report concluded that Christian persecution around the world is reaching the “international definition of genocide”.
As reported by the BBC, Hunt “felt that “political correctness” had played a part in the issue not being confronted.”
Pope Francis has donated $500,000 to migrants headed to the U.S. border in Mexico.
