The Homeland Security Department is looking to upgrade the software it uses to analyze biometric data on hundreds of millions of people around the globe, and it plans to store that information in Amazon’s cloud.
The agency’s Office of Biometric Identification Management will replace its legacy biometric analysis platform, called the Automated Biometric Identification System, or IDENT, with a new, more robust system hosted by Amazon Web Services, according to a request for information released Monday.
Hmmm
The name of the game here is “plausible deniability”. The government obviously can’t just sell “our”, let alone give away our data to corporate America. But they have been bribed to hand it over just the same. So, they are creating a situation where it can be easily stolen and the blame conveniently placed on an unknown third party. I have no doubt the headlines the next day will read that Russia or Iran stole were responsible…….
And the next thing you know, “our” data will be all over in internet in the public domain after it gets hacked from the cloud…….Oh, golly gee wiz we are so sorry. We had no idea that someone might actually steal the after we put it in a place using a technology that has been hacked over and over again……….No one could have foreseen such an unlikely outcome as this……
The government officials responsible for this should be arrested. And if there is not enough evidence to arrest them, they should be fired for stupidity…….
“Clouds” are inherently unsecured because there are large numbers of access points and huge numbers of users. And then there is the fact that “our” Congress has made sure the “law” protects corporations every time they lose our data or it gets stolen…….Corrupt and evil doesn’t begin to describe this betrayal of the American people…….
